THE PARISH TODAY
In October 2001 St Mary Magdalene's parishioners celebrated the 40th anniversary of the parish. Since that first Mass in 1961 many changes have taken place. The parish has moved forward and has always been open to change. In the eighties that first housing scheme in Bingham was demolished and rebuilt. Some of the people who had lived there did not choose to return to the new homes. The roll of parishioners had fallen and now stands at...... This, however, does not mean that the parish is not an active place of worship. There have been changes within the church. New stations of the Cross have been added, the heating and lighting systems have been updated and, as in the early days, there is still a willing band of helpers. The parishioners are fully involved in all aspects of parish life. The role of the laity has, of course altered since 1961 and women play a much more public role in services. ANow in theh 21st century the parishioners look forward as confidently and enthusiastically as did their predecessors more than forty years ago.
